Sony DADC playing strong in the Nordics with a distribution centre and two new offices

Salzburg/Austria, February 19, 2009 - Following its acquisition of Borås-based Entertainment Network Scandinavia (ENS) back in June 2008, Sony DADC is now taking the next step to further strengthen its service and supply chain offering to the Nordics by establishing offices in Copenhagen and Stockholm.

These new offices will seamlessly interconnect with the distribution centre in Borås (near Gothenburg) and the replication facilities in Salzburg, Austria and Southwater, UK to offer a complete one-stop-shop service to its clients.

Going into full supply chain offering in the Nordic region, a local Sony DADC presence is key. This urged the need of changing from an independent sales representative approach to a corporate presence. As a natural step of this paradigm shift, Sony DADC opens a new office in Copenhagen and transforms its former representative office in Stockholm into a corporate Sony DADC facility.

Jesper Schertiger, former CEO of Dicentia, together with Ludvig von Bahr, the company’s well-known representative for the Nordic region will be heading the new Sony DADC offices in the Nordics. "Jesper is a major win for Sony DADC and we can build on his long experience in the entertainment industry" said Arkin Kol, Director Sales at Sony DADC in Salzburg. While Jesper will assume responsibility for the home entertainment market in the Nordics, Ludvig von Bahr will maintain responsibility for the audio and games/software market.

Ulrik Rasch, General Manager of Nordisk Film A/S, not only has a deep insight to the Nordic home entertainment market, but also a long lasting relationship with Sony through Nordisk Film’s distributing of Sony PlayStation in the Nordic region. He commented that this strategic move by Sony DADC strengthens the company’s position and Sony DADC needs to be taken as a serious player.

Also Tore Skarelid, Senior VP Home Entertainment of Svensk Filmindustri, confirmed that “the changing market environment requires strong local supply chain providers such as Sony DADC, who can add value to our products, open new market windows and give the content owners the stability required to focus on developing their core business”.

“The Blu-ray format quickly found a broad base in the Nordic region where local productions are increasingly released on Blu-ray. This in particular put the Nordics on the map. Our intention is to form a strong Nordic service provider with a complete supply chain offering” commented Chris Reiser, Executive Vice President at Sony DADC. “This is why we in the first step establish corporate offices in Denmark and Sweden”.

Next to expanding its pan-European network, Sony DADC is investing in the development and spreading of new technologies, such as the Blu-ray format. Another major expansion in Blu-ray production resources is planned for 2009 to meet the increasing demand of the market.
